Coinbase: Bitcoin Pizza Day

On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz made history by conducting the first recorded real-world transaction using cryptocurrency, exchanging 10,000 Bitcoins for two large pizzas from Papa John's.

This year, Coinbase celebrated the evolution of cryptocurrency by hosting a pizza truck in Washington Square Park, NYC, underscoring its role in creating a more affordable and efficient financial system.

For this event, custom retro-inspired pizza mascot illustrations and additional iconography were created to evoke the nostalgia of old NYC pizza shops and to support the activation, which featured a fully decked-out pizza truck, furniture, a claw machine, a photo booth, limited-edition shirts, bomber jackets, socks, pizza boxes, napkins, table menus, and social media templates.
